Why I Named It Alana’s Emerald Lawn Care (Mosquitoes NOT Included!)

Kodiak summer lawn by Alana’s Emerald Lawn Care takes care of yellow flowers like these!

I’m so excited to share another Green Gems & Sprouts story. Today I am answering the question: Why did I pick Alana’s Emerald Lawn Care for my business name? It’s all about Kodiak—and a few pesky bugs!

Kodiak’s called the Emerald Isle. In summer, everything grows fast. Grass gets tall. Weeds pop up. Plants go wild! One day, it’s brown and faded. The next? Green, lush, blooming. I love those vibrant greens. The sun stays out past 11 p.m., waking up way early. Yards turn into emerald gems. That’s why I chose “Emerald”—it’s Kodiak at its best.

My birthday’s in May. My birthstone? Emerald. How cool is that? Emeralds are bright and bold. They match our summer vibe. They’re vibrant, like my neighbors. Everyone here’s got a spark. Emeralds are valuable, like the money we earn. Kodiak’s pricey, so I keep my services affordable. A mow’s $35. Planting help starts at $40 an hour. You get a great yard without a big bill.

But here’s a summer catch: those greens bring 🦟 mosquitoes 🦟 and “no-see-ums”! Long grass and thick weeds are their favorite hideouts. They love shade and damp spots. Regular mowing can keep bugs away. You don’t need to cut your grass super short, but you need to maintain it and remove places that can give mosquitos dark, wet hiding places!

My Emerald Essentials service does just that. I trim grass neat and fast.

Got overgrown plants? My Helper for Hire can cut them back or plant new ones.

Fewer biting bugs & more fun!
